Today we learned about this years Nobel Prize Winners in Science. First, we talked about the Physics recepients. These were Roger Penrose, Reinhard Genzel, Andrea M. Ghez, all of whom contributed to our knowledge about black holes. Next, we talked about the winners of the Chemistry Nobel prize, who created CRISPR. We discussed how Jennifer Doudna and Emmanuelle Charpentier helped create a cheap and fast way to edit genes using the Cas9 protein and synthetic RNA. Finally, we talked about Harvey J. Alter, Michael Houghton, Charles M. Rice for their notable work with the Hepatitis C virus. Using their discovery, blood tests for the virus are now available, which has greatly improved global health.
Overall, it was a fun meeting and next time, we will be talking about making stuff cold in science, which will be super interesting so make sure to be there.
Thank you for coming and see you next time!!
